    The old proverb that "Silence is golden." is certainly true in many circumstances. Indeed, silence is considered one of the many attributes a person possesses. However, it is not always golden, especially in our modern society.
    Firstly, silence may dull our sense of righteousness. It is a shame to keep silent when we see our friends being bullied or a stranger’s wallet being stolen. When our rights are violated, silence and tolerance will make things worse. Secondly, it may ruin our best chance of getting promotion or achieving success. If we keep silent and are afraid to express ourselves, we will lose the precious opportunities to show our talent and ability. Besides, silence is not golden when one needs to claim responsibility or when the one we love is expecting our response.
    Therefore, when the situation calls for it, we should no longer remain silent. Tell people what we think and how we feel, and then we’ll have ourselves understood.
