    Currently, there is a long-lasting fever of obtaining a variety of certificates among college students. According to a recent survey carried out by China Daily, a high proportion of 86. 7 percent of students admit that they spend their weekends and summer vacation in preparing for tests on English, law and computer science and so on.
    It goes without saying that this phenomenon has both advantages and disadvantages. At first, certificates have attractions of their own. They are evidence of students’ abilities. In addition, work-related or competence-based certificates may even help graduates land a satisfactory job. In other words, students are actually not obtaining certificates but striving for opportunities for their future. However, obtaining certificates also brings negative effects. Paying too much attention to certificate-obtaining will not only occupy students’ time that should be spent on their normal study but also increase their financial burden.
    From my point of view, what matters most in job hunting is relevant experience or skills rather than the number of certificates you have obtained.
