    In recent years, more and more people have been streaming into big cities from rural areas. They want a life in the city mainly for the conveniences it offers. First, a big city provides fast and convenient public transportation, with buses going to every comer of the city. Second, it provides a good education for children, with well-equipped elementary and middle schools. And young people can pursue a higher education at famous universities with modern facilities and well-known professors. Third, department stores, post offices, theatres, hospitals and other services are all within easy reach.
    However, due to the increasing population, big cities are now confronted with quite a few challenges. One is the traffic, which is becoming increasingly congested. Another is pollution. Apart from the inherent industrial sources of pollution, the growing number of new residents add and increase the city’s waste and rubbish. Without proper management, the environment is becoming noisier and dirtier than ever before. The third challenge to urban living is the worsening of public safety and security, which leads to an obvious rise in crime.
    In a word, a big city might be an ideal place for business, but not necessary one for people who want to enjoy peaceful life.
