Coffee is the most popular drink around the world. Can you guess how many cups people drink every day? Around the world.people drink about 400 billion cups of coffee! In the United States.about 107 million Americans drink coffee.
Where does coffee come from? It comes from Ethiopia, a country in Africa. Legend has it that one day, a shepherd noticed something unusual. His sheep were very active after eating the fruit of a strange plant. He tried it. too. He felt very energetic. The news about this plant traveled to Arabia and then Turkey. The Turks were the first people to make coffee a popular drink. They opened the first coffee shop in 1453. Today. Starbucks, a successful coffee company, has more than 12, 500 stores worldwide. Remember the story about the sheep? How active they became?(30)That’s because of a special ingredient in coffee. This ingredient is called caffeine. It gives the body extra energy. But is coffee good for our health? People have different opinions about this.
Many say that a little coffee can be good for us. Studies show that coffee helps the mind think better. It also gives the body more energy. But.a lot of coffee can be harmful to our health. Too much caffeine can cause people to feel stressed.(31)Many people find that coffee can also affect their sleep. Some recent studies also say that drinking too much coffee can cause heart disease.
So, drinking coffee can be good and bad for our health. If you like coffee, you should only drink a little a day. We just need to be careful and not drink too much.
