    Nowadays it’s not rare that some Chinese athletes, top athletes especially, settle abroad and acquire foreign nationality. When taking part in international games, they represent and play for the immigrated countries instead of their motherland China.
    To this phenomenon, people have different opinions. Some people condemn these athletes for being unpatriotic. After all, they say, it costed China lots of time and energy to train them to be top athletes. Others, however, see it in a different way. They maintain that sports should go beyond national boundaries and as long as we can appreciate athletes’ excellent performance, nationality really doesn’t count.
    In my opinion, it is just natural for Chinese athletes to represent other countries in international games, and, it has nothing to do with being patriotic or not. For one thing, everyone enjoys the right to choose nationality. For another, as today’s world goes global, international exchange of athletes is evitable in the process. Athletes going global are just following the trends of historical development..
