     (1) Nowadays, some people pay more attention to the accumulation of material wealth than anything else. As a result, they fail in filial gratitude for the sake of earning money. (2) Many elderly people thus suffer from the abuse and neglect of their children. It is urgent for us to address this phenomenon so as to guarantee the welfare of elderly people.
     (3) Undoubtedly, showing filial respect to our parents is a traditional (4) value and virtue of Chinese people. Ungrateful children are criticized and despised in their neighborhood, even losing their credit and reputation. Yet by taking care of our elderly parents we can set good examples so as to make our own children (5) follow suit. Furthermore, our government is setting up a system to protect the welfare of elderly people, although it is far from perfect at the moment.
     (6) As regards to how to show filial gratitude to our parents, we need to provide them not only with food and clothes, but also with care and consideration. (7) In my opinion, we should spare more time to accompany our aging parents so that they can enjoy the last stage of their life with love and with children around.
