I’d like to talk about the last Sunday when I had an arrangement with my teammates. It was a volunteer event held in a residential community, selling handmade products for charitable purpose. Our plan was to set up a booth selling the products, like paper cases, post cards, necklaces, T-shirts and so on. The money we made would be donated to an orphanage. However, on Saturday night, I studied so late that I totally forgot to set the alarm. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise that I showed up late at the event on Sunday.
I felt really bad. When I arrived, the booth had not yet been set up, my teammates were busy preparing. I could see some of them sweating. Due to my oversleeping, my teammates had to shoulder up my responsibility and spent more effort to set up the booth and prepared all the stuff. Though it was not a mandatory task, I did make a promise to join this meaningful event and there was no excuse for being late.
In fact, the reason for my being late was quite a selfish one. I studied late the night before because I had to hand in my homework the next day, and I wouldn’t be able to finish it if I hadn’t worked till midnight. I know this habit of delaying will do harm to me someday, but I am still struggling to overcome it. That being said, a promise is still a promise. People should behave as they say to win others’ trust. I’m grateful that my teammates forgave me and didn’t complain about my fault, some even worried about whether I got sick. Now I’ve learned a precious lesson and made up my mind to be punctual in the future.
