Even small kids show specific social behavior: they form social groups when they are together and play together. Kids develop cooperative relationships, competitive relationships and build friendships during the process of playing together. Group play is an important social activity among small kids between the ages of four and ten. There are two types of play activities. The first one is individual creation. It requires each kid to use the same material to build different things. For example, the teacher assigns several kids each some clay and tells them to make different things on their own. They play together but they cannot work together: each needs to use their imagination to make things that are different from each other. As a result, you will see a collection of clay toys such as a bear, a doll or even a kangaroo. Another type of playing needs cooperation and allows several kids to work together on the same project. For example, the teacher can ask the students to work on a paper castle with trees and flowers surrounding it, and then the kids can work together to do the cutting and pasting. The whole castle project is accomplished through cooperation and the group’s combined efforts.
