A jury has found former French official Maurice Mapont guilty of crimes against humanity for expelling Jews during World War II. Mapont was sentenced to ten years in prison. The sentence ended the longest criminal trial in French history. Mapont was a police official in the pro-Nazi government of France during the war. He was accused of ordering the expulsion of more than 1,500 Jews from Bordeaux. Most of those expelled were murdered in the Auschvits Camp in Poland. Mapont said he thought they were being resettled, not sent to their deaths.
