     One fad among young people, especially college students, is taking exams to get certain certificates, from CET-4 to GRE and from registered accountant to lawyer .
     Generally speaking, it is beneficial to take these exams. The certificates will help students be better equipped for job hunting or promotions. Even they fail the exam, the test preparation will help them get practical experience
     However, one issue needing consideration is whether these exams will help us in the way we have expected. Since most of the tests are expensive and require a lot of preparation, students should avoid taking them blindly. Before registering, we should make it clear why we want to take the exam. Is it really worthwhile or do we just take it because other people do? If our answer is the latter one, we had better give it up. Secondly, choose a certificate that is useful for future development. Some certificates are popular but useless for your job. Thirdly, make sure that you have the money and energy for the exam.  Finally, remember that preparing for certification exams demands diligence and patience. Only people with determination can succeed.
