    In recent years, people tend to spend more money on luxurious commodities. According to a report, China had ranked as one of the largest countries on luxury consumption by the end of 2013, surpassing Japan.
    As regards this phenomenon, there has been a heated discussion among the general public. Advocates take it for granted that people should spend more money on improving their living standards as they become richer. They regard luxuries as the embodiment of wealth and social status. In addition, they argue that it also promotes China’s domestic consumption, thus contributing to the financial revenues. However, other people hold an opposite viewpoint. They, especially those who value the traditional virtue of frugality, consider luxury consumption as a kind of waste. What’s worse, in order to follow fashion, some young people also begin to pursue the luxurious life regardless of their own financial conditions.
    In my opinion, it is natural for people to enjoy a better life with the improvement of living standards. However, a luxurious life is not equal to a better or high-standard life. People can lead a more meaningful and joyful life by spending the money improving themselves or providing some support for the people in need.
