    For one thing, it is futile to dwell on the past. No matter how beautiful or horrible your past is, it has gone forever, and never returns. Excessive indulgence in the past is a miserable self-punishment. So it is sensible to let bygones be bygones. For another, it is also useless to worry about the future, since many things are uncertain and unpredictable.
