答案     I’m going to tell you about one of my favourite wild animals from my country and the animal I’m thinking of is red fox. A red fox is about the size of a domestic cat, though in appearance it looks more like a dog. It has a reddish coat and a long bushy tail. Red foxes vary a little in colour, but often have a white underbelly, and attractive black markings at the edge of their pointed ears.
As to where red foxes generally live, that’s quite interesting. Historically, they were a feature of the countryside, especially popular on large estates where landowners raised pheasants for shooting. Sometimes they came into conflict with farmers because they got into a chicken shed, killing every bird in the hen house though only eating one. Gradually, they’d come to be regarded as pests in the countryside. Until quite recently, it is even legal to hunt them with dogs. So, having been quite persecuted in the countryside, red foxes have increasingly moved into urban areas. In this environment, they’re mainly scavengers, raiding bins, eating discarded food, and living alongside railway tracks.
People hold very different views about these creatures. Some people consider them pests that take livestock in the countryside and turn rubbish bins upside down in the city. Others, like me, treasure them. I feel really privileged that even in the midst of a city, you can catch a glimpse of a red fox at night, loping along. Where I live now, after it snows, I can see their tracks in the garden. I find it comforting that even though these animals are so maltreated in some rural areas, they’ve found a way to adapt and survive. They’re glorious to look at and give me hope that endangered as they are, they at least have found a way to endure.
