    Recently, more and more schools have been installed with monitor cameras. It is said that the installation can vastly enhance the efficiency of study and avoid the cheating in examination. But some people doubt whether the surveillance system is a blessing or a curse that arouses most students’ interests. In my opinion, the monitor camera should not be installed since it indeed brings about more problems than benefits.
    Firstly, installing monitor cameras can distract students from learning attentively and prevent them from developing sanely. Classroom is the place where students take their learning activities. Although monitor cameras can keep watch on students when they are learning by themselves, they can cause some uneasy feeling of some students.  This just stops them from being absorbed in learning.  Moreover, it may violate students’ privacy. Some students argue that studying under a monitor camera is very uncomfortable and humiliating. Some even feel they are monitored all the time from day to night and are afraid to do anything but keep silent. So students don’t welcome the idea of fixing cameras in their classroom because they want to spend their school life in a free and relaxing environment.
    Secondly, installing monitor cameras can destroy the teaching and learning environment. Since there are monitors in the classrooms, teachers may depend too much on the monitor cameras and make less contact with students. However, the most effective way to educate students is to know the students fully in person through the communication with them. On the other hand, the traditional disciplines may be slackened. Students may want to obey the discipline only because there are monitors but not do it self-consciously. When there is no monitor, these students may fail to abide by the rules. That is to say, students do not cultivate proper attitude towards disciplines and this will be a potential threat to their success.
    Thirdly, installing monitor cameras cannot solve the problems fundamentally. The purpose of installing monitor is to supervise students and help them in learning, but that is not the ultimate way. Students may look like good ones under monitor, but they may be absent-minded from learning or do other things such as reading novels, writing their own diary. What should be done is to cultivate students’ interest in learning and motivate them to learn by themselves but not install the monitor.
    From the above discussion, the monitor cameras should not be installed because it has negative effects, such as influencing students’ study and ruining their future. The most essential way to supervise students is to inspire them to learn more by themselves.
