Officials from the United States, Japan and the European Union and South Korea (Rok) have signed a contract to build two nuclear power reactors in North Korea (DPRK). The 4.6-billion-dollar deal was finalized in Seoul Wednesday with the project’ s main contractor South Korea’ s Electric Power Corporation. A US State Department spokesman welcomed the signing as a milestone. North Korea is to receive the two modern reactors under a 1994 agreement with the US which Pyongyang agreed to freeze its suspected nuclear weapons program.
