    As a saying goes, "one man’s meat is another man’s poison". Cultural beliefs vary from one country to another. That is why we look at issues in different or even opposite manners. Even though some countries have legalized homosexual marriage, I do not think it should be legalized in the Chinese context in the near future.
    Chinese culture is a hierarchical and patriarchal one, with strong emphasis on family tradition. If homosexual marriage is legalized, the concepts of "family" and "marriage" will be challenged. This is a threatening force to destroy the foundation of Chinese cultural beliefs. For example, Chinese people are taught that "having no kids is the most unfilial act to your parents". That means if a couple cannot produce an offspring, they are most likely shamed and humiliated by their family members. As such, we can see that, in Chinese culture, one important purpose of marriage is to produce male heirs, to continue the blood line. Given this cultural context, it is not hard to imagine what kind of pain gay couples would suffer, for they could never produce their own children.
    In conclusion, unless the dominant understanding of marriage in China is changed, homosexual marriage should not be legalized in China.
