M: (22) Thank you for coming today to talk about the new recycling program on campus. You are the president of the Student Council. What are the features of your new recycling program?
W: Right now all recycling is voluntary, but in the near future it will be most likely compulsory. The recycling we’ve planned is really a three-part program: sorting, collecting and distributing.
M: Three parts? Could you explain the three separate parts? Do you think which part is the most important one?
W: Actually, The first part, sorting, is the hardest to get people to do. (23)Most people don’t like to take the time to separate their trash. And this is usually where most recycling programs fail. (24)However, we are determined to make ours work. Instead of seeing the usual brown trash cans all over the campus, from now on you’ll see three different colors of trash cans.
M: Different colors for trash cans? It can decorate the campus, but do you have some skills to make people understand the different trash cans?
W: I think it is necessary. Pink trash cans are for paper, green cans are for glass, and white ones are for other wastes. Just remember: pink-paper, green-glass, white-waste.
M: After the trash is sorted, what else should we do?
W: (25)It needs to be collected and then distributed to the correct recycling facilities. Since this program’s still a volunteer program, we’re asking our students to give a little of their time to the project, probably no more than six hours per person each week.
