During the Ming Dynasty, the outer city was built and the population increased sharply, driving the further development of commerce. It was especially necessary to strengthen security measures in Langfangsitiao Street due to its many shops and stores; therefore, many tall and firm fences were put here, from which the name Dashilar was derived.
