   Many Chinese students cannot speak English fluently even if they have learned English for many years. They know a lot about English grammar and have mastered enough vocabulary to express their ideas. But still, when it comes to real conversation in English, they become almost dumb.
   There are many reasons behind this phenomenon. For example, some of them can not think in English. They have to translate their ideas word by word into English before they speak. Thus, it is almost impossible for them to speak freely. Thee are also students who cannot speak English just because they don’t have the courage to speak. They are not confident in themselves and are afraid of making mistakes. And the less they speak, the more difficult it will be for them to open their mouth.
   The only way to solve this problem is to speak English as often as possible. The more we speak, the better we can do it. By speaking more, we will build up the habit of thinking in English as well as the courage and confidence to speak. In this way I am sure someday we will be able to speak English as well as a native English speaker does.
