This is the reason why many Chinese readers cannot understand why (how) she has enjoyed such a high reputation in the west. But it is not the subject matter that determines whether a novel is profound, or whether it is artistically superior, or deep in thought. Austen’s novels are compared to an olive — the more you chew it, the tastier it will be.
